Teaching Practice

My teaching brings artistic practice, pedagogy, and inquiry into conversation. I approach the studio and classroom as spaces for careful observation, experimentation, reflection, and the development of individual artistic voices.

Drawing from my background in painting, sculpture, art theory, mathematics, interdisciplinary research, and arts-based inquiry, I am interested in bringing theory and practice together through learner-centred approaches. I support students in developing technical skills while also considering how artistic processes can become ways of seeing, thinking, questioning, and engaging with lived experience.

My teaching is responsive to different ways of learning and making. Through demonstrations, visual examples, discussion, experimentation, and individualized feedback, I aim to make technical and conceptual ideas accessible while creating space for students to develop their own approaches. I value inclusive and collaborative learning environments where students can ask questions, take creative risks, learn from one another, and build confidence in their artistic processes.

Visual Art Instructor, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Continuing Studies | 2025–Present

At Emily Carr University of Art + Design, I design and teach courses in drawing, painting, perspective, figure drawing, and art and design pedagogy in both studio and online formats. My teaching connects foundational techniques with observation, experimentation, critical reflection, and individual artistic development.

Courses Taught

  • Introductory Drawing — CSDR-100-SU01 (Summer 2025)

  • Introductory Painting Techniques — CSPN-100-SU03 (Summer 2025)

  • Perspective Drawing — CSDR-101-F001 (Fall 2025)

  • Teaching & Learning in Art and Design — CSED-100-S001 (Spring 2026)

  • Introductory Drawing — CSDR-100-S004 (Spring 2026)

  • Introductory Drawing — CSDR-100-S003 (Summer 2026)

  • Figure Drawing — CSDR-112-SU01 (Summer 2026)

Across these courses, I develop curricula, lesson plans, demonstrations, critiques, and studio-based activities. Step-by-step instruction provides students with technical foundations, while open-ended exercises encourage experimentation, interpretation, and the gradual development of an individual visual language.

In Teaching & Learning in Art and Design, I bring my experience as an artist, researcher, and educator into conversations about pedagogy, curriculum, artistic practice, and learning, with particular interest in how art education can foster curiosity, reflection, experimentation, and meaningful learning.

Teaching Beyond the Art Classroom

My educational practice extends across university, interdisciplinary, and community settings. At the University of British Columbia, I facilitate CS Art Circle within the Department of Computer Science, developing accessible art-based sessions for faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students. The initiative uses artistic practice to foster creativity, experimentation, connection, and community beyond conventional studio environments.

Workshops:

My work at UBC has also included digital learning design and illustration, research on teaching and learning, interdisciplinary workshop development, and community-engaged arts initiatives. I have co-designed and co-facilitated creative learning experiences such as Textile Imaginations and Patterns (at UBC, Vancouver , Canada, 2024) bringing artistic practice into interdisciplinary educational contexts.

Ealy Childhood Education, Visual Arts Instructor, Tehran, Iran, 2011-2019.

Earlier in my teaching practice in Tehran, I taught painting, sculpture, drawing, and creative art-making across community arts and educational settings. Working closely with children and young learners shaped my interest in spontaneous making, imagination, experimentation, and the ways education can support rather than prescribe creative development.
